This seminar is designed for both general industry and construction first line supervision, safety and health committee members, and management personnel. Topics covered include employee safety and health training, accident investigation, hazard recognition, and self-inspection techniques. This program gives tips to supervision on methods to integrate health and safety into their daily duties and responsibilities. Using MIOSHA General Industry and Construction standards and required written programs as a baseline, supervisors are given suggestions to improve their safety and health hazard recognition skills.

Chris Johnson

Chris Johnson is an Occupational Safety Consultant with the Consultation Education and Training Division of MIOSHA. Chris currently provides consultation and training services for Southwest Michigan counties.

Before working with the State of Michigan, Chris was a Safety Chair at a MVPP STAR manufacturing facility in West Michigan. His responsibilities included incident investigation, safety training, employee engagement, and developing and working with different employee lead safety teams in order to enhance the safety culture. Chris also has previous experience in the insurance industry, working with accident and liability investigations.

Chris is a graduate of Lake Superior State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science and is a licensed fire fighter and emergency medical technician in the State of Michigan.

Augustine Syrovy

Augustine Syrovy joined MIOSHA in 2018. He serves in the Consultation Education and Training Division as an occupational safety advisor and consultant to businesses, industry, unions, employee groups, schools, colleges, municipalities, counties, and other state agencies. He assists these groups in collecting, organizing and reviewing information in workplaces to determine what types of occupational hazards may be present and likely to affect workers. He works with management and employees alike to prevent, control and eliminate known or potential hazards. In addition, Augustine develops and delivers occupational safety training seminars to his constituents. He covers Washtenaw, Jackson, Eaton, Ingham, Livingston and Southwest Oakland Counties.

Prior to joining MIOSHA, Augustine was a fire service Captain and member of a county technical rescue team which responded to high angle rope, confined space, trench and structural collapse rescues. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Fire Technology from Siena Heights University.
