Course Description
This course is offered free of charge to all MDHHS child welfare and family preservation workers and supervisors, and MDHHS-contracted private agencies child welfare and family preservation workers and supervisors on a first come, first served basis.
This presentation will help identify what specifically constitutes a neurodevelopmental and related disorder. The presentation will include information on the development of a care plan as well as identification of available supports and services for families to support the individual living with a neurodevelopmental and related disability, throughout the lifespan. The presentation will include information on the development of medical/community support system as well as the need for individualized care planning as the individual transitions to adulthood. The workshop will utilize exercises, group discussions, as well as various media displays.

Objectives:
- Identify criteria and characteristics of neurodevelopmental and related disabilities.
- Understand the roles of family, school, and community in the life of a person with neurodevelopmental and related disabilities.
- Consider the resources and interventions that exist throughout the lifespan, early intervention through adulthood.
Instructor
Brandi Berry-Lovelady, LLMSW
Brandi Berry, LLMSW, serves as the Public Health Program Supervisor at the Kent County Health Department, overseeing three programs, Children's Special Health Care Services Program, Healing through the Grief: KCHD Grief and Loss program and the KCHD Fetal Infant Mortality Review program. With over 20 years of experience in Child Welfare and Human Services, she's a GRPS graduate and an Adjunct Professor at Grand Valley State University School of Social Work. Brandi received both her BSW and MSW from the GVSU School of Social Work. Ms. Berry is also a Full Spectrum Doula, Integrative Health Professional, and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Fellow. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, watching crime shows, traveling, and spending time with her family of four children, a cat, and a dog.
