Understanding and Treating Eating Disorders is a short course in the proper diagnosis of all Eating Disorders as categorized in the current DSM. Predisposing, precipitating, and perpetuating factors will be discussed. Assessment for medical risk and the decision process re: when to refer for a higher level of care will be shared. Outpatient treatment strategies for Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating Disorder will be taught. A new paradigm, Health at Every Size, will be introduced as an antidote to society’s destructive diet mentality.

Gail Hall



Gail L. Hall, LMSW, DCSW, CEDS-S, is the Executive Director of Eating Disorder Services at Sanford Comprehensive Treatment for Eating Disorders. Gail has been a therapist treating eating disorders since 1986: first in a large outpatient clinic; then as the Director of the Eating Disorders Program at Forest View Hospital. In 1998 she founded Comprehensive Treatment for Eating Disorders, a group of therapists and dietitians providing high quality treatment in an intimate, personalized setting. On March 1, 2021, the assets of CTED were assumed by Sanford Addiction Treatment Centers, and we are working together to establish a full continuum of care in Michigan. Sanford CTED is now offering individual and group therapy, family support, and an Intensive Outpatient Program.
Gail has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University; and is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the State of Michigan. She is also a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work via NASW; and is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Approved Supervisor through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals.
