Adolescent Human Trafficking: An Introduction and Overview
In this course, we will define Human Trafficking, and cover many types, to give participants a general overview of what trafficking is and what to look for to spot trafficking out in the world. This course begins with an overview, then digs deeper into child-related human trafficking.
Objectives:
- Define and identify human trafficking
- Define and identify sex trafficking
- Define and identify labor trafficking
- Define and identify other types of trafficking
- Identify signs of human trafficking
- Identify resources
**Learners are most successful when using a computer when completing this course. The course software does not work as intended on a phone or tablet.
**This course meets the Michigan LARA Licensure requirement for Human Trafficking, and counts for 2.0 Social Work Continuing Education Credits, 2.0 State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs for Educators), and/or 2.0 CEUs. Once you have viewed all of the course content, you must pass a post-test with a score of 80% or higher to receive a continuing education certificate. Upon successful completion of the course and post-test, your continuing education certificate will be made available to download/print within Blackboard (our online course system).

Professor Lamphiere's undergraduate degree is in Interdisciplinary Studies in Public Policy from Michigan State University, and her law degree is from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She externed at the Cook County State's Attorney's office while in law school, and clerked with a judge in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County upon graduation from law school. She then practiced law in a large firm for a short time, then a small firm for many years, where she practiced in the area of business transactions and business litigation, advising businesses, individuals, and non-profits. She has also worked in-house as a Contracts Associate for Brilliance Publishing (an Amazon company), and for LexisNexis as an Attorney Advisor in the Commercial Transactions area of Lexis Practice Advisor.
Professor Lamphiere has taught at Grand Valley State University, where she began teaching in the Integrative, Religious, and Intercultural Studies Department, Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies, in Spring 2019. Courses she’s taught include Diversity in the United States, Human Traffic and Trafficking, Leadership for Social Change, Life Journeys, and Reflect, Connect, Engage, as needed. She began teaching in the GVSU School of Criminal Justice in Winter 2016, where she served as the Legal Studies Internship Coordinator and taught the Legal Studies Internship course, and also taught the Property and Probate Law course and Constitutional Rights and Civil Liberties course, as needed. Professor Lamphiere started her teaching career at Davenport University in the Legal Studies department in 2010, where courses she has taught include Advanced Litigation, Business Law, Business Organizations, Constitutional Law/Civil Liberties, Employment and Labor Law, Human Resource Management, Intellectual Property, Legal Aspects of Sport Management, Legal Ethics and Certificate Review, Litigation, and Real Estate Law, as needed. She also serves as Board Vice President for Migrant Legal Aid (https://migrantlegalaid.org/), as Board Secretary for the Grand Rapids Film Festival (https://www.grandrapidsfilmfestival.com/), and as a Board Vice President for The Diatribe (https://thediatribe.org/).
