This dynamic one-day seminar is intended for employers committed to ensuring their facility meets or exceeds the requirements for employee safety contained in MIOSHA General Industry Safety Standard, Part 14 Conveyors.
Attendees will recognize, from multiple examples, the types of conveyors commonly found in the workplace. Detect the associated hazards that employees are potentially exposed to, identify the appropriate guarding and worker protection for those hazards. Review the safety related design, electrical, and specific provisions for the identified conveyors. During group activity, evaluate and analyze fatality case studies for contributing factors and rule violations.

Augustine Syrovy joined MIOSHA in 2018. He serves in the Consultation Education and Training Division as an occupational safety advisor and consultant to businesses, industry, unions, employee groups, schools, colleges, municipalities, counties, and other state agencies. He assists these groups in collecting, organizing and reviewing information in workplaces to determine what types of occupational hazards may be present and likely to affect workers. He works with management and employees alike to prevent, control and eliminate known or potential hazards. In addition, Augustine develops and delivers occupational safety training seminars to his constituents. He covers Washtenaw, Jackson, Eaton, Ingham, Livingston and Southwest Oakland Counties.Prior to joining MIOSHA, Augustine was a fire service Captain and member of a county technical rescue team which responded to high angle rope, confined space, trench and structural collapse rescues. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Fire Technology from Siena Heights University.
Deborah Ziel
Deborah Ziel is a Senior Occupational Safety Consultant who joined the Consultation Education and Training Division of MIOSHA in 2006. Before that, she had over a decade of safety and health experience in private industry. Deborah currently provides consultation and training services for mid-west Michigan.
Prior to working for the State of Michigan, Deborah was an EHS Specialist in aeronautics manufacturing facilities performing safety and health functions in two Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) STAR sites. Deborah is a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety & Health. Deb has a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (C.O.S.S) designation.
