Childhood Witness: Breaking the Cycle of Addiction and Domestic Violence

Children in the system are witness to many traumatic events. This conference will provide insights on how to work with children who have lived in an environment where addiction or domestic violence has occurred. Two local experts will present during the morning sessions. The afternoon will focus on Stacey Beck’s journey from being a major league baseball player’s wife, to the creation of PITCH 4 KIDZ, a program for children ages 6-12 who have a family member with a substance use disorder. The session will combine details of Stacey’s experience with the disease of addiction, the loss of her husband to an overdose, and the importance of helping children who are affected by a parent’s addiction. Skills and strategies for clinicians to use to facilitate healing and education for children and families will be taught through discussion and experiential learning. Registration is due upon registration.
