This 10-hour program presents an overview of MIOSHA regulations for the construction industry. Detailed information is presented to enable the participant to develop an accident prevention plan as required by Rule 114 of MIOSHA Construction Safety Standard Part 1, General Rules. An overview of MIOSHA inspection procedures is presented, as well as the most frequently cited MIOSHA violations in the construction industry. Participants gain detailed information regarding construction and health standards relative to the industry. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing hazards and describing safe work practices to eliminate or control those hazards.

Students will receive both MIOSHA and OSHA 10-hour cards upon successful completion of the class.

This course is required for Level One MTI Certification and has been approved for both residential builders pre-licensure and continuing safety training requirements.

Jim Getting, PhD

Jim Getting was appointed to MIOSHA's Consultation Education and Training
(CET) Division in 2007 and provides construction safety services for the Southwest
counties of Michigan. Jim has over 16 years of experience as a construction
safety professional. Prior to joining CET, Jim worked as Safety Director for several
companies, encountering a multitude of construction safety hazards. Jim learned
first-hand the challenges of training workers, developing safety plans, inspecting
worksites, and developing written programs to ensure worker safety and complying
with MIOSHA standards.

Jim has a Doctoral degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Auburn
University. His primary specialty is the managing of safety and motivation of workers
through behavioral safety methods. By utilizing these straight-forward and effective
techniques and his field experience, Jim provides training and consultation to assist
companies in developing positive and proactive safety programs.
